Abstract:

The purpose of this research work is to analyze and interpret the representation from the production made by different journalists in the narratives, regarding the figure of migrants who embody different realities in the Mexico-United States migratory phenomenon, during the administration of former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) and the first year of President Joe Biden (2021). To carry out the research, there are used the theoretical-methodological foundations of Thompson's depth hermeneutics (1998), in which it is intended to analyze both the production of narratives (through interviews with journalists who publish in the media), as well as the representation of migrants (from the selection of publications). In this way, it is intended to reveal how narrative journalism frames and constructs the figure of migrants, based on the production of narratives that are generated in media The contribution of this research to Cultural Studies lies in delving into the subject of the press and its construction of the migration phenomenon between Mexico and the United States based on stories about migrants, which are told in a more complex way in narrative journalism. The formation of representations about migrants contains meanings about the reality they live, and these representations depend on the narrative production carried out in each media.
